Your family home is likely to be your biggest investment, so you want to make sure you get it right from the very start. Which is why more and more Australian homeowners are choosing the inner strength of a house frame made from TRUECORE® steel to support the integrity and durability of their home’s construction.
TRUECORE® steel is made to all relevant Australian Standards and is tested for quality and consistency throughout its production. It’s this quality assurance that supports BlueScope in providing a reassuring 50-year warranty for residential applications (subject to eligibility requirements).*
Warranty pre-approval can be initiated online by your builder, offering you true peace of mind from the start of construction.
TRUECORE® steel is made and backed by BlueScope, Australia’s largest steel manufacturer and the makers of COLORBOND® steel.
Looking to obtain a warranty for your new home?
Here are some things to keep in mind when applying.

Applying for a warranty
The builder who installed your house frame can apply for the warranty on your behalf, providing you with an ‘activation code’ once your home has been handed over. As the homeowner, you can then use this activation code to complete the process and take ownership of the warranty.

Alternatively, you can simply register and apply online
If the builder has not applied for a pre-approved warranty, don’t worry. You can simply register and apply for the warranty yourself online, for up to 12 months from the date of installation. You may need a few details before you begin your warranty application, but our warranty site can walk you through those.

What warranties are available?
BlueScope offers the following warranties* for eligible applicants.

A warranty of up to 50 years may be available for the entire house frame in detached homes.

A warranty of up to 50 years may also be available for horizontally attached dwellings such as townhouses and duplexes.

A warranty of up to 25 years may also be available for structural subsystems such as roof truss only, intermediate floors only or wall frames.

Warranties may be available for calm marine environments (> 5m from high water mark), such as canal estates and estuaries. However, BlueScope does not provide a warranty for frames and trusses made from TRUECORE® steel when installed within 300m of surf or exposed marine influences
Frequently asked questions
Is a frame made from TRUECORE® steel durable?
Frames made from TRUECORE® steel are durable and designed for long life performance. The steel is protected by BlueScope’s industry leading aluminium/zinc/magnesium alloy coating with Activate® technology, which provides enhanced corrosion resistance. This patented technology has been thoroughly tested and is proven effective across various environments and building applications. Where there are cut edges from drilling or cutting operations, the galvanic action of the coating helps protect the exposed steel edge against corrosion.
Is there initial or ongoing movement of steel frames?
There will be no initial shrinkage or swelling of a frame made from TRUECORE® steel as there is no absorption or drying of moisture in steel frames. Steel frames will not shrink, twist, or warp over time so there's less chance of sticking doors, window jambs, nail pops, and uneven roof lines due to frame movement.
Do steel-framed homes have poor thermal performance?
No, with proper insulation and design, steel-framed homes can be thermally efficient, durable, and can meet or exceed today’s energy standards. With well-designed and code-compliant construction, the impact of the steel frame on overall thermal performance is limited. Many factors – including insulation, airtightness, window placement, overall design and construction quality – play a role in thermal efficiency.
