Oly Homes - Modular Construction
Modular homes built with inner strength
For Oly Homes, modular construction is certainly a unique solution to a whole range of building challenges – quality frames made from TRUECORE® steel are playing a big role in helping them achieve that.
Pre-fabricated for on-site efficiencies
Overall construction time reduced
Impressive strength-to-weight ratio
Won't shrink, twist or warp over time
“One of our really good selling points is that we use TRUECORE® steel frames. Our houses are delivered anywhere from 15 kilometres to 2500 kilometres away from our factory, so they have to be very strong - strong enough to withstand the rigours of many hours or days of travel"
Summary
For over 50 years, Oly Homes has been building modular homes throughout Queensland. They’re the state’s oldest manufacturer of modular homes, a building option that can be both cost-effective and a quicker way to build. Oly Homes build their modular homes in a bespoke factory on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and then transport and install them on-site throughout Queensland.
Key Benefits Delivered
Made strong to travel
For many years, their homes have used frames made from TRUECORE® steel, a feature that Dale Funston from Oly Homes sees as a real plus.
Durable and low maintenance
These modular homes are carefully designed to cope with the tough environment Queensland can dish out. They’re made to be particularly durable and low maintenance. Dale points out another important advantage:
“Frames made from TRUECORE® steel are not susceptible to termites, wood rot or mould issues, which is really appealing to homeowners. Steel frames are also very tough and do not warp, twist, split or bow like timber can.”
Minimise delays
In the current environment, with difficulties in sourcing both materials and tradespeople, building modular homes in a central location and then delivering them to site overcomes all sorts of obstacles. Finding skilled labour isn’t a problem for Oly Homes: “Our trades appreciate having the one site to come to” says Dale. “Our subbies are not having to travel the length and width of the Sunshine Coast to go to their jobs”.
The unique construction method makes things more cost-effective and considerably faster.
“It's our streamlined process that ensures our houses are constructed pretty much the same way - they just roll along like a production line. Then, we don’t have delays or hold-ups like a traditional builder on site would have due to lack of trades and that sort of thing. We employ the same trade for the same job on every house, which means we have great continuity, right through the factory.”
Speed of construction
These steel framed modular constructions come in a whole range of sizes and styles, with Oly Homes producing an impressive range of 1 to 5 bedroom homes, with the option to build custom designs. It’s also a relatively quick way to build a new house, as Dale notes:
“Depending on the design, our houses only take approx. 10 to 12 weeks’ time, from when construction starts to when it rolls out the factory gate – our clients are always very surprised”.
The frames made from TRUECORE® steel also make our homes ideal for difficult sites. “With sloping or difficult sites, having the steel frames allows us to break them down into smaller sizes to transport the house to site more easily”.
For Oly Homes, modular construction is certainly a unique solution to a whole range of building challenges – quality frames made from TRUECORE® steel are playing a big role in helping them achieve that.
