Creation Homes, one of Australia’s largest residential building companies, is understandably excited about a brand-new development they’re building in Hampton Park, southeast of Melbourne.

It’s set amongst a backdrop of freshwater lakes and farmland, with bike and jogging pathways winding through a beautiful natural setting, yet it’s firmly linked by nearby traffic corridors to Melbourne’s coastal suburbs, country escapes and the city centre.

Inside the Hampton Park development

See frames made from TRUECORE® steel in action and hear from the team at Creation Homes as they bring this project to life, showcasing a partnership built on strength and efficiency.

Time saved with TRUECORE® steel

Back in the planning stages for this impressive development, Creation Homes rapidly saw the many benefits that building this project with frames made from TRUECORE® steel would bring. Tor Miller, Procurement Manager for Creation Homes in Victoria liked what he saw:

“We quickly realised the value that TRUECORE® steel would bring to the equation. On this project, I reckon we have saved four to five days per dwelling during the construction phase and that goes straight to our bottom line.”

Prefabricated efficiency

For building companies and developers, the cost efficiencies with frames made from TRUECORE® steel come from a number of factors. The fact that the frames can be prefabricated offsite makes for high levels of precision and quality control, and that helps to reduce errors and streamline project timelines.

Creation Homes’ Site Manager on this project, Damir Slavica, is a big fan: “Our builders love working with TRUECORE® steel... the stack of frames gets craned off the truck onto the site - they’re lightweight but really strong. It's easy to unpack the frames and move them around the site. Two people can easily lift a large wall frame.”

Building companies are quickly finding that this combination of lightweight and strong can greatly enhance labour efficiency, even on restricted sites with multiple townhouses and duplexes. Site management is also improved by the big reduction in onsite waste that comes from building with frames made from TRUECORE® steel.

Benefits all round

Added efficiency doesn’t just come from the frames being fast to stand up and screw together – the precision engineering ensures the walls are straight and true every time. That eliminates the need for further straightening, with plasterers not having to pack and fill to achieve straight walls every time. The frames also come with pre-punched service holes, giving the following trades like plumbers, electricians and carpenters a big head start.

Efficiency and speed also stem from the way the frames are made, as Peter Blythe, Managing Director of Dynamic Steel Frame explains: “A frame made from TRUECORE® steel helps to minimise errors on site because a lot of the design work is done prior to the frames arriving on site, so making sure that windows and doors work, making sure that parapet heights work and box cutter locations and sizes work, assist the builder...making the build fast and efficient.”

BlueScope support

One of the other big advantages for builders and developers working with TRUECORE® steel is a range of support services available from the makers of TRUECORE® steel - BlueScope. Support can range from online technical support to onsite advisors and construction specialists depending on the project and its requirements.

Every project is different, and in larger or complex projects, BlueScope can provide construction specialists and on-site training for builders, their framers, and their following trades. The support can also involve on-site training days, including practical guidance on how to safely erect frames, what type of fasteners and tools to use, and even advice on what type of crane trucks would be best for a particular job.

Peter Blythe from Dynamic Steel Frame also finds the ongoing BlueScope support a big positive: “As a manufacturer, we really love working with BlueScope and TRUECORE® steel because we know the product going into our roll formers is always of a very, very high quality. This means that our frames that we roll are always straight and true. We also have peace of mind that if we need to call on BlueScope’s Technical Support, they are only a phone call away.”

Made to last

The focus on precision and quality control doesn’t just give developers, builders and eventual home buyers peace of mind – for eligible applicants, frames made from TRUECORE® steel come with a warranty* of up to 50 years backed by the trusted name of BlueScope.

Creation Homes’ Tor Miller sees the involvement of BlueScope as a real plus for their Hampton Park project: “People like that a BlueScope product - TRUECORE® steel - is at the heart of the build. We like it too. TRUECORE® steel has been such a big advantage on so many levels for Creation Homes - we strongly recommend it. Going forward as a builder/developer, using TRUECORE® steel really is a no brainer.”
