2023
The Block comes back to the big smoke after last year’s excursion to the foothills of Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, where contestants created some big homes on very big blocks of land. This year, we’re back in Melbourne’s bayside suburb of East Hampton, with five properties wrapping around a prime corner position. They’ll each be undergoing some extraordinary transformations, with a steel framed extra storey courtesy of TRUECORE® steel being added, together with some breathtaking new interiors that are going to generate a lot of commentary.
2022
This was the tree-change year, where everything was done on a grand scale, and framing by TRUECORE® steel allowed the massive window and door openings that spectacularly blurred the lines between inside and out. They were homes built to take advantage of the beautiful, inspiring views, complemented by huge living/dining rooms with luxurious fittings and towering, raked ceilings.
2020
Set in Melbourne’s affluent beachside suburb, Brighton, 2020’s Block used five period homes to explore styles and eras from the past. Each of these older iconic homes then gained an architecturally designed extension, studio and garage featuring TRUECORE® steel frames. This was the year we got to see the whole process behind the scenes as the steel frames are made – we got to follow Foreman Keith on a visit to Dynamic Steel Frames, where we saw what happens once the contestants’ plans are approved, with CAD drawings being sent to the fabricator, and TRUECORE® steel frames rapidly coming to life at a surprisingly fast speed.
2019
In 2019, TRUECORE® steel helped transform Melbourne’s infamous Oslo House boarding house into a thing of beauty. Frames made from TRUECORE® steel were in all the new extensions of The Oslo (all 24,308 linear metres of it). We were very proud of the way it provided the speed, durability and design flexibility to make the impossible, possible over an extraordinary 14 week build.
2018
2018 marked the first year framing with TRUECORE® steel was introduced to The Block - it was used to construct the top-storey apartment of The Gatwick for Carla and Bianca and the other team on the top storey, helping them create a sleek and modern apartment with stunning views over Melbourne.
2017
Set south-east of Melbourne’s CBD in inner-city Elsternwick, The Block transformed five weatherboard fixer-uppers into a stunning collection of modern homes. TRUECORE® steel was featured across the back of the build in the garage and studio.
