BlueScope’s TRUECORE® steel recently sponsored the ‘Best Use of Steel Frame Housing’ category at the Master Builders Housing & Construction awards in Queensland. The award was in its inaugural year and winners were announced during regional award ceremonies during July and August 2017.
Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards recognise those at the forefront of building innovation and quality craftsmanship, promoting and showcasing excellence in Queensland’s housing and construction industry. The ‘Best Use of Steel Frame Housing’ category attracted entrants from small family businesses through to some of the biggest names in the home building industry.
“Master Builders is pleased to be working with BlueScope, who inspired the introduction of this new category in our annual Housing and Construction Awards. It was a natural extension of our valued awards given the increase in steel frame consumption in Queensland by both builders and consumers. The award also recognises the speed of construction and design capabilities when working with steel”, said Grant Galvin, CEO of Master Builders QLD.
The standard and number of entries in the initial year of this award demonstrates the exciting future for light-weight framing made from TRUECORE® steel in residential building.
Coral Homes took out the Best Use of Steel Frame Housing category at the Master Builders Brisbane Housing & Construction Awards, held on 7 July 2017 at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
They were a deserving winner and have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to offering light-weight steel framing made from TRUECORE® steel in the construction of their project homes. The award was also welcome recognition for Stoddart Steel House Frames who manufactured and installed the frame made from TRUECORE® steel for Coral Homes.
According to Coral Homes’ CEO Steve Foley, the award further reinforces the builder’s growing reputation for innovation. “Steel frames are an example of our ongoing commitment to innovation in building materials whereby we are continually looking for ways to better cater to the needs of our customers at prices they can afford,” said Mr Foley.

Alan Jenkins Builders:
‘The Perch’ built by Alan Jenkins Builders was awarded the Best Use of Steel Frame Housing category at the Master Builders Far North Queensland Housing & Construction Awards, held on 12 August 2017 at Cairns Convention Centre.
The win was a combined effort with local businesses working together to achieve a fantastic outcome. The homeowner, Mr Vivian conceived the original building concept and praised his local builder, Alan Jenkins, who brought the dream to reality, “His willing attitude and skilled knowledge allowed the design to push the limit”. The award was also deserved recognition for architect Peter D’All’Alba, from PD Designs who in conjunction with Homefab Steel Truss and Frame from Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands engineered and prepared the plans for the award-winning home. Homefab also manufactured and delivered the frame made from TRUECORE® steel.
The design and location lent itself perfectly to the advantages of TRUECORE® steel. With Cairns being a traditional block construction area, the project helped to demonstrate the versatility and strength that TRUECORE® steel can provide, even in cyclonic areas.
